Gabor Szabo – Breezin
Often times the originator or original edition of a work or thing is often overshadowed by a more orecent rendition. It happens all the time when songs are sampled and dominate the radio. Whatever is pressed on our minds most recently often wins out.
In this case it’s “Breezin” by Hungarian jazz guitarist, Gabor Szabo. Most people hear “Breezin'” and immediately think of George Benson’s version, released in 1976. Szabo’s predates Benson’s by 5 years and is written by and features Bobby Womack on guitar.
In terms of preference, I give Benson the slight edge. Definitely more livelier and the embodiment of the word breezing.
