Spike Lee Was My Hero

“Spike Lee Was My Hero” by Skyzoo shuffled into my headphones earlier today and I had to make a post about it. A Dream Deferred along with Kendrick Lamar’s Good Kid, M.A.A.D City  were two albums released this year that were throwbacks to rap albums of the 90s. They followed a theme and saw each song fit seamlessly into each other. The track features fellow Brooklyn emcee Talib Kweli and is filled with references to Spike Lee movies.

The Tall Black Guy produced track samples “Windjammer” by trumpeter Freddie Hubbard. The song was also sampled in a similar song, Stalley’s “330” an ode to his hometown of Massillon, Ohio.
