Blvck (black) Diamond Life. I just downloaded this mixtape the other day and it’s already one of my favorites of 2010. Droop-E, son of E-40 (check him out on I’m Loaded), released this 8 track mixtape with samples of Sade songs about a month ago. Not only did he rap on the songs, but he also had a hand in all the production as well. I’m a stickler for solid sampling and this has it. He put his own touch into some of these well-known Sade songs. You won’t find the repetitive vocal samples or just taking some of the instrumentation the song already has. He crafts these into something new. I can definitely appreciate that.
I’ll just echo this quote from 38th Notes:
…we have had it on repeat nonstop. As you might expect from a project boasting strictly Sade samples, it’s smooth. And we’re not talking light beer smooth, we’re talking silk and cigar smoke smooth. It’s the music of midnight migrations through the city in luxury automobiles or down the coast in private planes. Get the picture?
I couldn’t have said it better myself. Check the link at the top, the tracklist also includes the sample credits.
